... It's finally official, Wave House Durban South Africa will host the 2011 FLOW (Flowriding League of the World) Championships. This year's FLOW Championships will be held October 5th - October 9th and will draw the world's best flowriders from the US, Chile, Singapore, Dubai, UK and various other countries. This event will mark the 3rd annual FLOW Championships and the first time the FLOW Championships, the most prestigious and challenging competition in the sport, will be held somewhere besides Wave House Sentosa Singapore. As the sport continues to grow and the riders continue to push each other to new heights, the demand to compete on the world's FlowBarrel’s has become an integral part of these Championships. To date, Wave House SA is home to the only Double FlowBarrel. Yes, it has a right and a left breaking barrel on the same ride attraction. So unlike during the previous FLOW Championships which featured only a left breaking FlowBarrel, this year's competitors will need to demonstrate their riding skills on barrels breaking in both directions.

The FLOW Championships were first organized as a way to bring together the world's best riders and challenge them to the various disciplines of the sport on both the Wave Loch's FlowRider and the FlowBarrel wave attractions. In October 2009, the first event was held during the grand opening of Wave House Sentosa Singapore and the results were astonishing. The completion bridged a 10,000 mile gap between riders of the four Wave Houses, affording them an opportunity to compete together on the same stage. Following the great success of the first event, Wave House Sentosa graciously hosted the 2nd annual FLOW Championships this past November along with the WFC (World FlowRider Championships), the world's top competition on the FlowRider. This year the FLOW Championships will combine both competitions. The FlowRider competition will count for both and the FLOW Championships will combine scores earned on the FlowRider and FlowBarrel.

In October, 2001, Wave House South Africa opened its doors (and waves) as first of the 4 Wave House venues. Along with the only Double FlowBarrel in the world (affectionately known as the D-Rex), Wave House SA also features two FlowRiders, a state of the art skate park designed by Tony Hawk and a 7,000 person capacity concert venue. With a sponsor list such as Quiksilver, DC Shoes, Xbox, Fox, Swatch watches, SkullCandy headphones and more, the 2011 FLOW Championships promise to be bigger and better than ever.

Qualifying competitions are already under way in the US and Chile with the rest of the world soon to join in. Stay tuned to our FLOW Championships page for all qualifier results and FLOW Championship updates.
