The So Cal stops of the Wave Loch FLOW Tour kicked off this past Saturday July 10th, 2010 at Wave House San Diego, followed by The Wave Waterpark in Vista and then on to, to Raging Waters in San Dimas. Competitors came into town from as far as Florida, New Jersey and even Dubai for this action packed weekend.
Riders started practicing Friday evening, kicking off a non stop, shred-tastic series on the FlowRider. From the Grom division (ages 11 and younger) to the Masters (35 and older, some much older!) and levels of bodyboarding and flowboarding ranging from youth to expert, the riders charged though the long days with flying airs and carving sprays.
The Expert division brought some unexpected results as the top seven riders were consistently inconsistent, to say the least. While Sean Silveira, last year’s Flow Tour winner and this year's fan favorite, took a shocking fourth place at San Diego, he eventually worked his way back to take the gold at San Dimas. Ben Kaiser, the 17 year old professional wakeskater, solidified his first place spot over Brenden Fenske with insane pop shuvits and kick flips galore on days one and two, landing in first place in Vista then taking second place on the final leg of the stop. Greg Lazarus and Eric Silverman, predominantly FlowBarrel riders, both made the semis during day one, and Greg made his way into the top four on day three. In the Expert Bodyboard division, Patrick Boyce managed to take a win at the Vista, but is was Nick Nguyen, last year's tour winner, who took first in the other two stops in addition to landing the third place spot in Expert Flowboard two of the three days.
Ladies Flowboard saw some insane competition, as the usual tour suspects took to the FlowRider at Wave House San Diego. Amanda McCormick stuck her 360 shuvit, awarding her the gold over Dee Daniels, who took second, Kim Koyle in third and Jessica Nichols, last year's tour winner, who took fourth place. Amanda continued her domination, placing first in all three stops this weekend.
Other winners of the weekend included: Max Sokolov, all the way from Dubai, winning the first two events of Jr’s Flowboarding, Morgan Seabert, taking the number one for all three Female Bodyboard divisions, Neil Brown, winner of two days of Men’s Bodyboard, Aaron Furman, number one in two rounds of Drop Knee and Shaun Hancock, winner of all three days of Master’s Flowboard.
A big thanks goes out to VP of Brand Management for Wave House Bob Puetz, who successfully saved a seagull who tragically got tangled above the FlowRider at Wave House San Diego. Bob, who took third place in Masters Flowboard, sprung into action and saved both the day and the frightened gull with his bare hands. Additional thanks go out to Wave Loch, the judges of the events, the FLOW Tour sponsors and everyone involved in this amazing triple stop of the 2010 Wave Loch FLOW Tour. The next stop is at Republic Aquatic Center in Missouri on July 17th.
